Protecting Yourself from Malicious Emails & Online Scams
From time to time, fraudsters send fake emails that look like they’re from banks, the Federal Reserve, NACHA, the IRS, or other well-known companies. These messages often ask you to click a link or verify your information. They may even look very professional—but they are designed to trick you and can install viruses that steal your information.
Important reminders:
- Do not click links or open attachments in emails asking you to verify account or personal information, unless you are absolutely sure the message is legitimate.
- Organizations like Equitable Savings & Loan, the Federal Reserve, and NACHA do not send emails with links asking you to provide or confirm sensitive information.
- Keep your anti-virus software up to date and make sure your computer and network have appropriate security settings and firewalls.
- Only open email from trusted senders, and be cautious even if the email looks familiar—scammers often copy logos and branding.
If you think your computer may be infected:
- Have your PC cleaned and checked by a knowledgeable technical professional as soon as possible.
- Review and strengthen your firewall and email security settings to block malicious messages.
If you receive a suspicious email or see a suspicious website:
- Forward the email to: [email protected]
- Call us at 877-652-6522 if you suspect identity theft or have questions about your account or online security.
