Important Information Regarding Malicious Email and Online Security

There has been a recent increase in the volume of malicious email received by some clients of financial institutions, including Equitable Savings & Loan Association. These incidents are occurring with greater frequency and increased sophistication. Perpetrators are conducting phishing attacks in which they are sending fraudulent emails that claim to be from the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA), the Federal Reserve Bank, IRS, commercial financial institutions, other payment organizations, technology companies, or businesses. Please be aware that if you receive any email requesting you to click on a link to verify any information, we strongly encourage you NOT to click on the email or enclosed links unless you are very familiar with the source.

Frequently, there are viruses attached to embedded links that can harm your PC and compromise your online banking sessions. Any of the organizations listed above, including Equitable Savings & Loan Association, the Federal Reserve, and NACHA DO NOT send email to Bank clients containing links with requests for information.

As a standard practice, please be sure that your anti-virus software is up to date, appropriate security features are in place on your network, and that you only open email from trusted parties. Even if the source appears to be familiar, be aware that fraud perpetrators often attempt to give the appearance of being a legitimate site.

Please remember to always use care when utilizing the Bank's Internet site and follow these two simple maintenance rules:

  • If your PC has been infected, it should be disinfected or scrubbed and the malware removed immediately by knowledgeable technical specialists. This is the first critical step to assure that the hackers cannot compromise your account again.
  • It is also recommended that your firewalls be adjusted to prevent malicious emails.

At Equitable Savings & Loan Association, we take information security very seriously. In partnership with our clients, we feel we have very effective safeguards in place. Nevertheless, security requires ongoing vigilance from all parties engaged in accessing information and initiating transactions over the Internet. Your secure account data is of the utmost importance to us. Please feel free contact us if you would like additional information.

Immediately report any suspicious emails or websites to Equitable Savings & Loan Association by forwarding the message to [email protected]. If you suspect identity theft or have any questions regarding this notice, please contact Equitable Savings & Loan Association at 877-652-6522.
